Position title
Agricultural Director - Sustainable Farming and Organic Certification
Description

Provide technical leadership for sustainable farming practices and guide the organization toward organic certification standards while ensuring productive and environmentally responsible community garden operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop sustainable farming protocols and best practices for FFGA community gardens
  • Oversee soil health management and water conservation systems
  • Guide organic certification process and compliance for community gardens
  • Provide technical support and training to community gardeners and CSA farmers
  • Coordinate with agricultural extension services and research institutions
  • Monitor crop yields, garden productivity, and environmental impact metrics
  • Implement integrated pest management and companion planting strategies
  • Oversee seed bank development and heritage variety preservation
  • Support freelance farmer recruitment for CSA department operations
  • Collaborate with HAICI School curriculum development for practical training
  • Ensure climate-resilient farming practices suitable for Caribbean conditions
Qualifications
  • Degree in Agronomy, Sustainable Agriculture, or related field
  • 5+ years experience in sustainable farming practices
  • Knowledge of organic certification requirements and processes
  • Experience with tropical/Caribbean growing conditions
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to train and mentor community gardeners
  • Understanding of permaculture and agroecology principles
  • Familiarity with climate-resilient agricultural techniques
